Details
Margaret's Hope is one of the Darjeeling's best known tea gardens, situated in the north Kurseong Valley on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. It was founded in 1859 and renamed in the 1920s after the tea planter's daughter Margaret, who fell ill on a trip to England and was unable to return to see her beloved tea garden.
The tea bushes at Margaret's Hope are almost entirely of the orthodox China Jat varietal which produce the much sought after green tippiness of the processed leaf and the intensely fresh fragrance. This tea is grown at high altitude with relatively cool weather. The first flush crop is usually quite late in the season and the bushes do not grow quickly so the volume of production is limited.
